Giants vs. Broncos injury news: Giants’ WR Kadarius Toney says he is “good” to play – Big Blue View

New York Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney sounded optimistic on Wednesday that despite a spring and summer filled with stops and starts he will be ready to play in Sunday’s season opener vs. the Denver Broncos.

“I’m good,” Toney told media members at Quest Diagnostics Training Center.

The Giants’ first-round pick (No. 20 overall) has dealt with a number of issues since the Giants selected him after trading down from No. 11. He skipped voluntary OTAs, began training camp on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, then shortly after returning to practice suffered a hamstring injury, keeping him sidelined for the entire preseason.

Toney finally returned to practice last week.

Toney said it is “on the coaches” to decide whether or not he is active on Sunday. On Wednesday, though, he couldn’t come up with a reason why he shouldn’t play.

“Nah, I mean, unless you wanna go make one up,” Toney said.

Head coach Joe Judge said Wednesday that he believes Toney could have a “significant role” vs. Denver.

“I’d say it is realistic for him to have a significant role based on how he practices this week. We’re seeing his health improve, we’ve seen him do a lot of things with the team as we’ve kept on moving. He’s handled the installs very well,” Judge said. “I’d say for a player who hasn’t seen obviously pre-season games or a lot of significant time volume wise on the field with the guys through preseason, he’s been able to go out there and manage it and execute in practice what we’ve asked him to. I think that’s a tribute to how he’s worked off the field.”

Two things that are significant here. Evan Engram is the only player who did not practice. Left guard Shane Lemieux (partially torn patellar tendon) is not listed on the injury report.
